THOMAS WINGO
Mr. Charlie Thomas Wingo, of Newnan, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012.
Born December 6, 1927, in Heard County, Mr. Wingo was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Myric Dorough Wingo; his father, George P. Wingo; mother, Nettie Wingo; six brothers; and three sisters. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newnan, where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Director of Training Union, Usher, and as a member of the Finance Committee. He and his wife served on the Lay Team Ministry, as a volunteer at the church and A. O. House. He also regularly visited the elderly in local nursing homes.
Mr. Wingo was a member of Hogansville Masonic Lodge #93 for 55 years. A veteran of World War Two, he served in the Pacific Theater as a T-5 Sergeant of the 50th Military Police Battalion as a personal aide to Col. Robinette, Provost Marshall of all Pacific Islands.
Survivors include his son, Tommy Wingo and his wife, Peggy; grandson, Jeremy Wingo and his wife, Stella, and their two children, Ethan and Trent; granddaughter, Jessica Hunter and her husband, Shawn and their two children, Grayson and Ryland.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, in the Old Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Newnan. Rev. Jerry Walker and Dr. Jimmy Patterson will officiate and interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m., Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Newnan.
