Mr. Charles L. Spradlin, Sr., 80 of Newnan, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Sacred Journey Hospice in Newnan.
Born October 7, 1941 in Hogansville, GA, Mr. Spradlin was the son of the late George Newport Spradlin and Corrie Mae Hay Spradlin. He was a 1959 graduate of Hogansville High School, was a proud member of the FFA, was a U.S. Navy veteran, and was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Spradlin taught drafting and graphic arts at LaGrange High School, Newnan High School, and Callaway High School over his 23 years of teaching and was a member of Newnan First Baptist Church.
Mr. Spradlin was a talented singer. He served as a minister of music for 44 years at various area churches and was a member of the Sons of Jubal and the Sons of Lafayette. In addition to sharing his love of music to people in the area, Mr. Spradlin had the opportunity to perform with the Sons of Jubal in Israel.
Survivors include his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Sherry Spradlin of Newnan, daughter, Christine Spradlin of Maui, HI; son and daughter in-law, Charles L. Spradlin, Jr. and his wife, Brandi, of Franklin, GA; grandchildren, Destini Tobias of Douglasville, GA and Keagan Spradlin and his wife, Erin, of Franklin; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 9, at Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County (10077 GA Highway 100, Hogansville, GA 30230). The Reverend Clinton Hughes and the Reverend Bobby Boswell will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Navy..
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and at the church from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Friday.
