Mr. Charles L. Cooper, 83, of Moreland, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital.
Mr. Cooper was born June 10, 1938, in Lincoln, Nebraska, son of the late Elmer and Frances Cooper. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the U. S. Army after 22 years of service and then made his home in Columbus before moving to Coweta County in 1984. He also retired from the City of Newnan after 16 years of service. Mr. Cooper enjoyed assembling model cars, loved NASCAR and collecting military items, and also had a prized collection of Ford Mustangs
Survivors include his children, Danny (Belinda) Thompson of Moreland, Laurie (Michael) Phippen of Newnan; grandchildren, Terah (Mike) Capell, Jason Adam (Jennifer) Brooks, Tammy (Shane) Nelson, Heather (Brad) Stewart, Heidi (Chad) Leatherwood, Tim Crawford, Michael Smith; sister, Kathryn (Skip) Teaster; and a number of great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cooper; and his grandson, Samuel Christopher Brooks.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 29, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Rev. Donny Shelton and Rev. Chad Leatherwood will officiate and interment will be in Southview Cemetery in Moreland, with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.
