Mr. Cecil Ray Hay, 89, of Hogansville, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at his home.
Mr. Hay was born May 5, 1933, in Hogansville, son of the late Henry Grady Hay and Susie Mae Fielder Hay. He was a veteran of service in the Korean War, serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, then four years in the U.S. Army, and was a disabled veteran. Affectionately known as "Whoop," he had a deep love for his family, enjoyed doting over his grandchildren, and loved helping families in need with food from his gardens. Mr. Hay was a strong supporter of veterans, helped many veterans apply for benefits, and for many years he would purchase food and sundry items and make monthly trips to leave those items for veterans at the Tuskegee VA Hospital and Home.
Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Hay of Hogansville; daughter, Yvette Yates of LaGrange; son, Derrek Hay and his wife Donna of Greenville; grandchildren, Nikki Dial, Zack Yates and his wife McKenzie, and Eric Sanders; and great-grandchildren, Wiley Yates and Rance Yates.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Leonard Hodge will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday.
