Mrs. Carolyn Gordon Denney, 91, of LaGrange, peacefully passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, surrounded by her daughters at her home.
Mrs. Denney was born December 2, 1929, in Hogansville, daughter of the late Lee and Ethel Baker Collier. A longtime resident of LaGrange, she traveled the world with her husband and children, living in Germany, Minnesota, Washington, D.C., Florida and California. Mrs. Denney made friends wherever she went. She loved to tell stories. She spent much of her time in her later years with friends at Active Life Center. Her smile and her laugh were infectious and endeared everyone to her.
She loved gospel music and traveled the southeast with her second husband to attend singings. Nothing pleased her more than to share a catfish dinner with friends and loved ones. She was a dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed giving back to her community anyway that she could. Mrs. Denney was a devout Christian and was a long-time member of Dunson United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Denney was the manager of the LaGrange Top Dollar store for many years. She was known in the community for being kind to anyone who walked through the door. She was hardworking and fearless. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was incredibly proud of raising four daughters and played an active role helping to shape her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters and sons in-law, Cathy Holmes of Cordele, Charlotte and Joey Anderson, Cherri and Dan Breland, all of LaGrange; sister, Bessie Riggins of Woodbury; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas E. Gordon and John W. Denney; and her daughter, Connie Anderson.
