REVEREND DR. BILLY W. BURKS
Reverend Dr. Billy W. Burks, 83 of Newnan passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at The Claiborne at Newnan Lakes.
Born October 27, 1939 in Warren, Arkansas, Dr. Burks was the son of the late Clyde and Pauline Cooper Burks. A veteran of service in the U. S. Army for eight years during the Vietnam War, he received a number of awards, including two Air Medals and two commendation medals. He earned a Doctorate of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist School for Biblical Studies and served several area churches before retiring in 2001 as Director of Missions for the Western Baptist Association in Newnan. He was a private pilot and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, Susie and Cleve Crum of Grantville; step-sons and daughters in-law, David and Leslie Duncan and Kim and Kathy Duncan, all of Newnan; sisters and brother in-law, Ann and Steve Millekin of Mayflower, AR and Linda Gill of Warren, AR; grandchildren, Josh Wilson and Courtney Carse; and a great-granddaughter, Madalyn Carse. In addition to his parents, Dr. Burks was preceded in death by his first wife, Inez Allen Burks; his second wife, Betty Duncan Burks; and his son, Tracy Scott Burks.
Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. Pastor Ken Norton, Paster David Smith, and Ray Thomas will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday evening.
