Mrs. Betty Jo Hamby, 89, of Hogansville, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at the home of her son Ken, in Belen, NM.
Mrs. Hamby was born March 22, 1929, in the Lowell Community in Carroll County, daughter of the late J. P. and Flora Eley Staples. She was the valedictorian of the 1946 class at Hogansville High School, attended West Georgia College in Carrollton, and was a resident of Clayton County for a number of years before returning to Hogansville in 1984.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joseph L. Hamby whom she married on April 16, 1949, and is survived by her three sons, Rev. Joseph L. Hamby, Jr. and his wife Betty of Houston, TX; James Kendall Hamby and his wife Beverlie of Belen, NM; Cary Stephen Hamby and his wife Lana of Stockbridge; sister and brother in-law, Pam and Elmer Williams of Hogansville; seven grandsons and one granddaughter (by age): Jonathan, Jeremie, Matt, Esther, Adam, Luke, Seth, and Zack; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother Duane Staples, and her sister, Bonnie Jackson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 19, at Grace Covenant Worship Center in Hogansville. The Reverend Joseph L. Hamby, Jr., Pastor Alex Montgomery, and the Reverend L. J. Wood will officiate. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Friday night, January 15.
