Bettie Withers

Mrs. Bettie Withers, 94, of Hogansville, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the home of her daughter in Thomaston.

Born May 10, 1928, in Meridian, MS, Mrs. Withers was the daughter of the late James Edwards Gilmore and Willie Mae Fontaine Gilmore. She earned a Bachelors degree in business from Montevallo University, retired from AT&T after thirty years of service, and lived in Birmingham, AL from 1964 until making her home at Hogansville in 1990, She was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church, was a Master Gardener, and had served as a volunteer at Callaway Gardens and at area extension services.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Withers, Jr. of Hogansville; daughter and son in-law, Becky and William Watson, Jr. of Thomaston; grandson, Will and Christen Watson, also of Thomaston; great-granddaughter, Ansley Kathryn Watson; sister in-law, Ann Gilmore of Oxford, MS; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Samuel L. "Sam" Withers; sister, Martha Martin; and brothers, Douglas Gilmore, James Gilmore, and Frank Gilmore.

The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 4, at the graveside in the Corinth Cemetery, with the Reverend Amy Arnold officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m., Sunday.
