Bernice Cook Strickland

Mrs. Bernice Cook Strickland, 88, of LaGrange, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center.

Mrs. Strickland was born June 23, 1935, in Ranburne, AL, daughter of the late John and Ethel Mae Buchanan Cook. She was a homemaker and a talented seamstress, but also served as lunchroom manager at Rosemont School for a number of years. A woman of faith, she was a member of Big Springs Methodist Church, where she was a longtime Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, and member of the United Methodist Women. She loved collecting antiques, baking, sewing, and reading.

Affectionately known as MawMaw and Fernice by her grandchildren, she is survived by her daughter, Ellen Parmer and her husband Keith Parmer of LaGrange; grandchildren, Chase Parmer and his wife Sara Parmer of LaGrange, Beth Parmer of Atlanta, Sara Abell of Center Barnstead, NH; great-grandchildren, Winnie Pace Parmer, Lacey Abell, Rex Abell; brothers, John T. Cook of Sawyer, OK, Jackie and Jan Cook of Locust Grove, Donnie and Pam Cook of Warm Springs; and step-son, Tom Strickland III and his wife Ginny Strickland, of LaGrange, and their children, Travis Strickland and his wife Natalie Strickland, and Jason Strickland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Strickland, Jr.; son, John Reed Strickland; daughter, Maidee Strickland; and granddaughter, Stacie Strickland.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 27, at Big Springs Methodist Church. The Reverend Dwayne Perdue will officiate and interment will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the service.
