Barbara Garrett Washington

Mrs. Barbara Garrett Washington, 83 of LaGrange, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, at Hospice LaGrange. Born August 3, 1937 in Troup County, Mrs. Washington was the daughter of the late Sidney Fred Garrett and Nellie Ruth Smith Garrett. She lived in Atlanta for many years before returning to Troup County in 1976. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and retired from Troup County School System, where she worked in the cafeteria at Gardner Newman Middle School for 17 years. Survivors include her sister, Pearl Garrett Morgan; brother, Homer Garrett, both of LaGrange; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Washington was preceded in death by her husband, Arol Washington; daughter, Melanie Ann Smith; sister, Betty Bloom; and brother, Dewey Lee Garrett, Sr. The funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 17, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Randall Hodge officiated and interment was in Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
