Barbara Jean Smith

Mrs. Barbara Jean Smith, 89, of LaGrange, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Hospice LaGrange. Mrs. Smith was born May 4, 1932, in Coweta County, daughter of the late William David Damron and Mary Love Harris Damron. A former resident of Hogansville, she had lived in LaGrange more than 40 years, was a member of New Life Church, spent her career as a nurse, and retired from the Department of Family and Children Services. She enjoyed helping others and had served as a caregiver to the elderly and as "Mama Jean" to generations of children. She was a member of Active Life in LaGrange and enjoyed sewing, quilting, baking, and cooking. Survivors include her daughter, Rosalind Honeycutt of Columbia, SC; sons and daughters in-law, David and Robbin Smith of Hogansville, Charles and Linda Smith of LaGrange; sister, Betty Sue Allen of Hogansville; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 4, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Pastor Conrad DeFriese and Brother Lance Dorrough will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
