Mrs. Agatha W. Purgason Jones, 91 of Hogansville, and a resident at Vernon Woods in LaGrange, died Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Born October 10, 1926 in Troup County, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Eugene and Minnie Gamble Williams. She was a life-long resident of the Hogansville area and well known as a hair dresser, having owned and operated My Lady Beauty Salon in Hogansville, for thirty-nine years. She was an active member of the Hogansville First United Methodist Church where she faithfully served in many capacities, including an18-year tenure as treasurer of the United Methodist Women and as a member of the Board of Trustees. Mrs. Jones was a devoted volunteer with the West Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary for more than 30 years and was a charter member of the Pilot Club of Hogansville.
Survivors include her children, Dan (Mary Ann) Purgason and Mike (Linda) Purgason, both of Hogansville; her brother, Billy H. Williams of Balmorhea, TX; step-daughter, Patricia (Billy) Bassett of Roberta; step-son, Gary (Becky) Jones of Hogansville; step-nephew, John (Anne) Ball of Carrollton; grandchildren: John (Claudia) Purgason of Gillsville, Melissa (Josh) Cummings of York, S.C.; Cheri (Spence) Fulford of Hogansville, and Michelle (Scott) Thompson, LaGrange; great-grandchildren, Ross, Whitley, Rex, and Gunnar Purgason, Dani and Zane Cummings, Rusty (Chesna) Brown, Lily Rae Fulford, and Zack and Zoe Thompson; and a great-great-granddaughter, Stella Brown. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband, H. N. Bill Jones in 2007, and John W. Purgason, the father of her two sons, in 1990.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Reverend Helen Henry will officiate, and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 3 Sunday afternoon.
