Obituary for Harold J. Toney

Mr. Harold J. Toney, 77, of Hogansville, passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at his home.

Mr. Toney was born December 19, 1942, in Heard County, son of the late Samuel Ernest Toney and Annie Ruth May Toney. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army, he lived in Texas from 1971 until returning to Troup County in 1992. He was a man of many talents and had served as a firefighter, was an excellent plumber, and had been a very capable maintenance manager. Mr. Toney had also been a race-car driver, enjoyed fishing and woodworking, but he enjoyed being with his family most of all.

Mr. Toney and his wife, Laura Ann Toney, were married May 11, 1963; other survivors include his daughters, Kim and Will Carty of Purdon, TX, Laura Angela Wood of Hogansville; son, Christopher Toney of Polk City, FL; sisters, Jeanette Teague of LaGrange, Martha Freeman of Hogansville; brother, Brady Toney of Hogansville; grandchildren, Jessica Carty, Melanie Carty, Holly Carty, Crystal and Raymond Harrington, Michael and Tiffany Ives, Deanna and Tavis Lohden, Jason and Ashley Townsend, Justin and Meghan Townsend, Jamie Townsend, Destiny Erwin; 17 great-grandchildren; and a number of loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Toney Townsend.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.

Special thanks is given to Angela Wood and Crystal Harrington for taking time to be full-time nurses to their father and grandfather.
